Simon Cowell And Clay Aiken: 'Who Cares' If Aiken's Gay?
by Staff

Clay Aiken has thanked fans for their words of support, following his decision to come out as gay.

The former American Idol star and new dad finally admitted to what was for some an already forgone conclusion - that Aiken was a 'closet' homosexual - in the October edition of People magazine, claiming he "cannot raise a child to lie or hide things".

And he has been inundated with words of support from fans, even though 'fan' Cowell reacted with his typical sarcasm. Reports AP:

"Wow. That's a shock. It's like being told Santa Claus isn't real. Unbelievable," he told television show Extra. "Good for him. If he said it, it's the right thing for him. ... I don't think anyone cares.

Added the sardonic American Idol host: "Let's face it. It's 2008. You know. Who cares?"

Aiken updated his website on Wednesday (24Sep08) with a special message for well-wishing devotees. It reads, "Suffice to say, for the first time in recent memory, I am speechless. I'm so proud to know and love all of you.

"My family is so much larger than (his baby son) Parker, (Parker's mum) Jaymes, mom, (brother) Brett, etc. It extends to each of you. And I couldn't be more blessed."
