Photo: Reliant Stadium Damaged, Texans vs Ravens Monday Night Game Postponed
by Mike Baron

Reliant Stadium has been damaged by Hurricane Ike so, the Houston Texans will not be playing their home opener

against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.

The game was supposed to have been played at 7:30 p.m., but Hurricane Ike has caused damage to the stadium that has made it unsuitable to host the game.

An additional photo, plus a larger and clearer version of the one above can be found here.

The NFL will determine where and when the Texans play the Ravens. The Texans' bye week is Oct. 26, so that date is a possibility.

A Reliant Park spokesman says the storm has torn chunks off the stadium's retractable roof and the damage can't be fixed in time for the game.

"We lost about five panels from the stadium [roof], and then some doors were blown off," Edgar Colon, chairman of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp told the Houston Chronicle.

"We have not been able to give a visual inspection," Colon said.  "This right now is preliminary.  We have not done a full inspection."
