Giants WR Plaxico Burress (Photo) Shoots Self In Right Leg
by Mike Baron

Plaxico Burress has been shot! and if you can believe, it might have come by his own hand.

Jay Glazer of and Mike Florio of are both reporting that Plax shot himself in the thigh.

According to the team, the shooting happened last night and Burress was accidentally shot in the right thigh and spent the night in the hospital. He was released early this morning.

He was not at team meetings and did not attend Saturday's walkthrough. Specific details of where the shooting took place or in what hospital Burress was treated has not been released.

The team released a statement saying, "Our primary concern is for Plaxico's health and well-being, and given the circumstances, we are relieved to say he was released from a New York City hospital."

This is just another blight in what has not been a good year off the field for Burress. He has been suspended and fined several times this season for missing meetings and arguing with officials. And throught it all, Burress insists he is not a distraction to his team.

Burress had already been sidelined for this Sundays' game against the Washington Redskins due to a hamstring injury. The Giants said yesterday he would not play tomorrow.

Plax is currently playing on a $35 million contract that he signed after the Giants won the Super Bowl last season.
