Haleigh Cummings Case: Sexual Predator Arrested
by Toshiba Reynolds

A little 4-year-old girl by the name of Haleigh Ann Marie Cummings remains missing from her Florida home.

(Scroll down for dated updates) Haleigh Cummings, who lives with her father and his girlfriend in the home in Florida, was in her bedroom sleeping while her father was at work and his girlfriend slept in the next room.

Apparently the girlfriend was awakened by a loud noise around 3:30 am and went to check on little Haleigh when she discovered the girl was missing.

That was on February 10th.

The home Haleigh resides in is backed to woods and the St. John's River area. She is a Caucasian 5-year-old with long golden locks.

Authorities intensified the search for the little girl Wednesday. More than 130 searchers scoured a rural area of southern Putnam County but failed to turn up any trace of the child.

Police said the double-wide trailer in Satsuma where Haleigh lived with her father, 2-year-old brother and her father's girlfriend showed no sign of forced entry, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

Investigators didn't rule out the possibility that Haleigh was abducted but had not made that their prime focus, the Jacksonville Times-Union reported.

"At this point we're not really sure," said detective John Merchant of the Putnam County sheriff's office.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, 25, said there is no way his daughter would have left home in the middle of the night.

"My daughter is afraid of the dark," Cummings said.

A state team specializing in child abductions aided in the investigation.

Feb. 19 - A sexual predator from the area has been arrested, but authorities have not named him as a suspect. Also, the shirt that little Haleigh was reportedly wearing the night she was abducted has been found.
