Dog Returns After 9 Years: Astro (Photos) The German Shepherd Home At Last
by Jack Ryan

Nine years after Astro the German Shepherd went missing, the Geary family got a surprise phone call informing the family last month that their dog had been found.

Needless to say, the Geary family was shocked when to receive the call from an animal control officer who said that Astro had been located.

The Gearys had adopted Astro from a shelter when they lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida. One month later, he became lost.

After searching frantically for their beloved pet, the family eventually gave up hope. They moved three times since then and eventually ended up in Louisville, Kentucky.

In a weird twist of fate, Astro somehow made it to Tennessee where officers picked up the dog on Jan. 29 when he was spotted running loose.  An implanted microchip linked ownership to the Geary family who were surprised to hear Astro had been spotted after so many years. "It's still a real shock that he is actually here," wife Linda Geary told

Dennis Geary says he wasn't sure if Astro would remember them but at their happy reunion, the shepherd astonished everyone by acting as if he still remembered his family and began licking them. See a larger photo and read more here.
